Matted turf is the single most common reason people assume their lawn is finished. In most cases the fibre has plenty of life left; it is lying down because the infill that supports it has migrated to the low spots and the traffic lanes have been walked flat. Grooming reverses both, and the difference is visible in a single afternoon.
Why turf flattens
Infill migrates. Foot traffic, drainage flow, and monsoon runoff push it downhill and toward edges, so the high-traffic middle of the lawn ends up with the least support.
Traffic lanes compact. The path from the slider to the gate takes the same load every day and stays down permanently without mechanical lifting.
Heat sets the memory. Polyethylene fibre held flat at Henderson summer surface temperatures takes a set, and the longer it stays flat the more work it takes to bring back.
Furniture and planters crush. Anything left on turf for a season leaves a footprint that will not recover on its own.

Can flattened turf really come back?
Almost always, provided the fibre itself is intact. What looks like wear is usually lack of infill support plus set-in memory from heat. If the fibre is genuinely split or abraded through, brooming will not fix it and we will show you the difference on your own lawn rather than charging you to find out.
Do I need more infill?
Frequently, yes, particularly on lawns over three years old. We measure depth in several zones before recommending it. Anyone who quotes infill without measuring is guessing.
Can I just do this myself with a stiff broom?
You can, and for a small lawn it helps. A hand broom moves the surface; a counter-rotating power broom lifts from the base and moves infill at the same time. On a compacted traffic lane, the hand broom will not reach the problem.
