Pet Urine & Odor Removal
If your turf smells worse on hot afternoons and worse again right after you water it, you do not have a surface problem. Dog urine drains through the turf and leaves uric acid salts crystallised on the backing and in the lower infill. Those crystals are not water-soluble. Hosing the lawn rehydrates them, which is exactly why the smell spikes after a rinse.
Why hosing it down makes it worse
Uric acid crystallises. Water re-activates the crystals and releases the ammonia smell without removing anything, so every rinse buys you a stronger odor for a day and then the same problem back.
Henderson heat accelerates it. Surface temperatures on turf in July run well above ambient, and the bacterial breakdown that produces ammonia moves faster the hotter it gets.
Consumer sprays are perfume plus surfactant. They mask for a few days and add a sugar-bearing residue that feeds the same bacteria you are trying to kill.

- Blacklight surveyUV inspection maps the actual hot zones before treatment. On most lawns the damage is concentrated in two or three spots, not spread evenly.
- Deep saturation flushThe affected zones are flooded and extracted to dissolve and remove the loose salt load before enzymes go down.
- Bio-enzymatic applicationLive enzyme culture applied at volume so it penetrates to the backing. Enzymes digest uric acid into odourless compounds rather than covering them.
- Dwell and second extractionThe culture is left to work, then extracted. Digested residue leaves the property with us.
- Infill top-up where neededZones that have lost antimicrobial infill to repeated flushing get replenished so the fix holds.

Will the smell come back?
Not from the urine we removed. New urine creates new salts, so the interval matters: one dog on a large lawn is usually fine at six months, two or more dogs on a small yard need treatment every three to four months. We will tell you which one you are.
Is the treatment safe for my dogs?
Yes. The enzyme cultures are non-toxic and used at consumer-safe concentrations. Keep pets off until the turf is dry, which is a wet-grass precaution rather than a chemical one.
Do I need to replace the turf?
Almost never. The fibre and backing are not what is damaged; the contamination sits on and around them. Replacement is only worth discussing if the backing has delaminated or the infill has been fully lost, and we will say so honestly.
What about the smell coming from under the turf?
If urine has soaked past the backing into the base rock, extraction alone will not reach it. That case needs a lift-and-treat, which we quote separately and only after we have confirmed it with a probe.
